What is ACBT and where is it located?
ACBT - Australian College of Business and Technology
is a modern and dynamic educational institution with high quality
courses. Its environment encourages students to achieve excellence
in their studies and its philosophy is one of quality teaching combined
with strong academic and welfare support to enable and to achieve
their academic and personal potential. ACBT also forms part of a
network of Australian Institutes of Business and Technology located
in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Kenya, Zambia,
Indonesia and England - each of which is linked to a university.
ACBT - Australian College of Business and Technology is one of the
same type of institute linked to Edith Cowan University, Perth,
Australia.
• What is the relationship between
ACBT and Edith Cowan University?
All of ACBT's courses are approved by ECU and consist of the same
units that constitute the programs of the relevant degrees taught
by ECU. ACBT students sit ECU examinations and university staff
oversees marking and grading progress. Students who finish their
Diploma can transfer to the second year of the appropriate degree
course at many other Australian universities.
• Could a student just after O/L start
their studies at ACBT?
Students just after O/L's can start with the Certificate IV, which
is the Foundation Program and can complete it in 2 semesters, which
is 8 months. Students who have not successfully completed A/L's
could start with the Foundation course and with a 70% average in
the first semester they may transfer to the Diploma course.
• What if I fail some units - do I have
to repeat the whole semester?
No. Because of the flexible nature of the program it is possible
to progress to new units whilst retaking a failed unit. As three
semesters of study can be completed in one calendar year, students
taking one or more units can get back ‘on track’ without
loss of time.
• If I complete the ECU course
at ACBT will it be internationally recognized?
Yes. Since you will be studying the exact same course and syllabus
of ECU at ACBT, the certificate is offered by ECU itself, which
is recognized by the Australian Government and the certificate is
internationally recognized.
• Can you explain more about
this special flexibility?
Students vary in their academic backgrounds and ability, their commitment
to study, their support, their desire to get into the work force
as quickly as possible. So we tailor our courses to them, as an
example, we offer: -
Fast Track - three semesters of study
in one calendar year. This gives students the opportunity to catch
up if they have fallen behind for some reason or to get ahead if
they want to get a qualification as quickly as possible.
Flexible Study Options - students may
prefer to consider extending two semesters workload over three semesters
to provide themselves with the best possible opportunity for academic
success. With the three-semester calendar year, they would still
be able to complete the course within a twelve-month period.
Small Lecture and Tutorial Groups -
first year at university, where lectures can have
300 or even more students in a class, can be a daunting experience
for some students. It is easy for them to feel neglected or lonely
in a crowd. ACBT guarantees that lecture groups will have a maximum
of 25-35 students. Lectures are complemented by small group tutorials
and work shops so that you receive the attention you need.
Part Time Study -
classes are scheduled on a 'block' basis providing students with
the opportunity to study half-day sessions rather than several,
scattered, short, periods throughout the week. This provides opportunity
for those students with employment and other commitments to manage
their time.
• What is the
composition of the student population at ACBT?
Students at ACBT are from many countries. Most come from Sri Lanka
and others from Maldives, China, Korea and India.
• Is there a difference in
the fees I pay to ACBT?
Yes. You won't be paying the ECU fees; it is a
much lower, local fee. And yet you get the internationally recognized
internal university certificate. And the course fee includes exam
fees plus VAT with no extra charges.
• Are students at ACBT required
to buy textbooks?
Yes. Because ACBT programs are academic courses,
students need
textbooks. Many students buy second hand books from other students.
