Diploma of BusinessThe ACBT Diploma of Business is the first year of the Bachelor of Business degree offered by the School of Management and School of Marketing, Tourism and Leisure Studies at Edith Cowan University (ECU)


Course Structure

To be awarded the Diploma of Business you must complete and pass the following 8 of the following 9 units:

Compulsory Units
  • BES1100 Foundations of Business Knowledge
  • BES1200 Business Knowledge Development

Electives
  • ACC1100 Accounting 1
  • ECF1110 Economics 1
  • ECF1120 Finance 1
  • LAW1100 Legal Framework 1
  • MAN1100 Management 1
  • MIS1600 e-Business Systems
  • MKT1600 Marketing Principles & Practice

 

Students will select electives based on the major area of study they wish to follow in their destination degree.  Students can choose to do a single or double major.  Single majors are available in Management and Marketing.  A double major, that is, Management and Marketing is also available.

TEACHING METHODS AND ASSESSMENT
Instruction for all units is classroom based. Four hours of class contact per week are allocated to each unit. Assessment for all units is ongoing and continuous, consisting of tests, assignments and case study analysis. All units have a final two or three hour examination. The overall pass mark required for each unit is 50%. In some units a pass in the final examination is required in order to pass the unit.

DURATION
The Diploma of Business can be studied full or part time. Students who study the program full time, that is, 4 units per semester, can complete the course in two semesters. Students can enter the course in March, July or October.

FURTHER STUDIES
Students who successfully the Diploma of Business are eligible to transfer to Year 2 of the Bachelor of Business degree offered at ACBT or transfer to Year 2 studies at an Australian University. As many universities decide transfer acceptance on a case by case basis, students who wish to apply for overseas studies should contact the relevant university for entry requirements and procedures.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Students wishing to study the Diploma of Business must have a minimum of 2 passes at A levels and a C grade in O level English and Mathematics. Students who have completed O levels, have a minimum of two years work experience and are 19 years of age or older are also eligible to apply.

COURSE FEES
The current course fees are Rs 42,500 per unit. This includes 12% VAT. ACBT reviews fees on an annual basis and fees are subject to increase.
